Every time someone does not return an item to its home, the reason is almost always friction. The bin has a lid that needs two hands. The hook is behind the car. The shelf is too high for a child to reach. The label has faded or was never there. The path to the storage zone is blocked by the last project.
Label generously — shelves, bins, wall sections, floor zones for large equipment. Use labels that describe the category broadly enough to accommodate related additions over time. A label that says “Lawn care” will still be accurate when you add a new edger; a label that says “Specific model mower” will not.
